Curlew Cottage is located at the southernmost tip of the Ards Peninsula, along a private National Trust lane. It overlooks the sheltered Barr Hall Bay and the majestic Mourne Mountains in the distance. There is direct access to a beach less than 100 yards away.

Curlew CottageThe area is renowned for its natural beauty. It is part of the Ballyquintin Nature Reserve, a good location for farmland birds such as Yellowhammers, Skylarks, Linnets and tree sparrows. Coastal birds such as oystercatchers, curlew, terns and gannets are regularly seen, as are seals basking on the rocks just offshore. Irish hares are commonly spotted galloping across the fields. There are great walks to be had from the door around to Ballyquintin farm along the coast and home again.

The Cottage is a white-washed stylishly restored 19th century barn with all modern conveniences and a nautical feel throughout, boasting breathtaking views and light-filled rooms. Due to the gas-fired central heating, the cottage is easily warmed and the thick walls keep it snug. It has its own south facing private garden, and due to the easterly location of Curlew cottage it enjoys a microclimate of more sunshine than most.

Portaferry, the local fishing village is only 3½ miles away. It boasts numerous cafés, dining options, pubs, galleries, and a marina, and Northern Ireland’s only public Aquarium and seal sanctuary are located here. A short ferry ride across the lough from Portaferry takes one to the historic village of Strangford, from where it is only a short drive to Caste Ward and on to the county town of Downpatrick.

The unique location, the silence only being broken by a bird calling or a seal barking, makes Curlew Cottage a very special place to stay.
