Things to Do in Tbilisi at Night Beyond Bars and Clubs

Tbilisi comes alive after dark in ways that most travel guides undersell. The city's nightlife isn't just about bars and clubs - though those are excellent. There are sulfur baths open past midnight, late-night khinkali restaurants, illuminated Old Town walks, and river boat tours. Here's what's worth doing when the sun goes down.

Cocktails at Crossroads Bar

Start the evening at Crossroads Bar on Shalva Dadiani Street. It's a cocktail bar with over 50 drinks on the menu, but the reason to begin here is the atmosphere - this is the most social bar in Tbilisi, with a weekly schedule that includes quiz nights, open mic, karaoke, and Friday "Foreigners and Friends" meetups. The crowd is international - expats, digital nomads, travelers - and the kind of place where a drink turns into a group and a group turns into a plan for the rest of the night. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 8pm.

Walk the Old Town after dark

Tbilisi's Old Town is a different experience at night. The narrow streets of Sololaki and Abanotubani are illuminated and come alive in a way that feels completely different from the daytime. The Narikala Fortress glows above the city, the Peace Bridge is lit up spanning the Mtkvari River, and the Metekhi Church sits dramatically on its cliff. If you're only in the city for one night, this walk should be the priority. The streets are full of bars, restaurants, and wine cellars, so you can duck in and out as you go.

Sulfur baths at midnight

The sulfur baths in the Abanotubani district - recognizable by their brick and tiled domes popping out of the ground like giant mushrooms - are one of Tbilisi's signature experiences, and several stay open past midnight. You rent a private room for yourself or a group, soak in the naturally warm sulfur water, and get a kisa scrub-down from an attendant. The Orbeliani Baths with their blue mosaic facade are the most famous. Some facilities have private rooftop pools with views of the lit-up Narikala Fortress. Budget around 50-100 GEL for a private room. Coming here after a few hours of bar-hopping is a Tbilisi tradition.

Late-night khinkali

Eating khinkali - Georgian soup dumplings - past midnight is practically a civic duty in Tbilisi. Shemomechama has three locations around the city, with the flagship on Samghebro Street near the sulfur baths being the most convenient for an Old Town night out. Velyaminov is one of the oldest khinkali spots in the city - over 160 years old, a semi-basement with no fancy decor, low prices, and large portions. Leila's Khinkali, which opened its first sit-down restaurant in Mtatsminda in late 2025, serves handmade mountain-style khinkali that are some of the best in the city. The technique: grab by the top knot, take a small bite, sip the broth, eat the rest. Discard the knot.

Mtkvari River boat tour

Boat tours on the Mtkvari River run about 30 minutes and some operators keep going long into the night. You get views of the Peace Bridge, Narikala Fortress, and Metekhi Church from the water - a perspective most visitors miss entirely. It's a good palate cleanser between dinner and drinks, or a calm way to end an otherwise loud evening.

Ride the funicular to Mtatsminda Park

The funicular railway departs from a station on Chonkadze Street and takes you up to Mtatsminda Park, where the views over the city at night are panoramic - Holy Trinity Cathedral, the President's Palace, the Peace Bridge all visible below. The last train leaves the lower station around 11:30pm, so this works best as an early-evening activity before heading to bars. Ask staff at the top when the last train departs so you don't get stranded.

Practical tips

Nights start late in Tbilisi - locals go out even on weekdays, and showing up to a bar before 10pm means you'll have it largely to yourself. Most restaurants stay open well past midnight, and the Georgian tradition of feasting until the small hours means ordering an abundance of dishes and drinks isn't just common - it's expected. Use Bolt for transport. Most of the nighttime activity is concentrated in central Tbilisi - Old Town, Sololaki, Vera - so walking between spots is easy. A full evening covering cocktails at Crossroads Bar, a walk through the Old Town, late-night khinkali, and a sulfur bath will cost you a fraction of what a comparable night costs in any Western European city.
